Real Monarchs Goalkeeper Fernando Delgado Invited to Join Mexican National Team for Training and International Friendlies in Dubai 

HERRIMAN, Utah (Friday, March 17, 2023) – Real Monarchs and former RSL Academy goalkeeper Fernando Delgado has been invited to join the U-17 Mexican National Team as they travel to Dubai to train in preparation for the Team’s appearance in the FIFA U-17 2023 World Cup in Peru, beginning on November 10th.

For the fifth consecutive time Mexico was crowned champions of Concacaf Men’s Under-17, making it their ninth overall title. Delgado was a member of the championship roster, earning a 1-1 draw in their match against Panama. Mexico will now aim to win their third FIFA Under-17 Men’s World Cup title in Peru later this year.

Despite being one of the younger players in the age group, Delgado, 16, has been a frequent member of the U-17 Mexico National Team, having recently earned consecutive call-ups in July, August, and December of 2022, and most recently in January and February of 2023. The young netminder holds dual citizenship for the United States and Mexico, having represented both countries at the youth level.

Real Monarchs are in preparation for their second season in MLS NEXT Pro, having begun preseason training on February 1, 2023. Under the leadership of Head Coach Jamison Olave, the team finished the 2022 season with an eight-game unbeaten run at home, empowered by the youngest roster (by average age) in the entire league. The Team will open the regular season on Friday, March 24th, playing host to Minnesota United 2 at Zions Bank Stadium in Herriman, Utah. Gates open at 7:00 p.m. MDT for pregame block party and festivities, first touch will be at 8:00 p.m. MDT.
