HERRIMAN, Utah (Thursday, October 15, 2026) – Utah Royals FC (14-4-9, 46 pts) return home to America First Field to host Kansas City Current (13-5-9, 44 pts) on Saturday, October 17th, with kickoff set for 4:30 p.m. MT. Sitting just two points above the Current on the NWSL table, the Royals will be seeking a win this weekend by utilizing the advantage of home soil and its variety in goalscorers, in what could potentially secure them a spot in the 2026 NWSL playoffs.

In its last match before the international break, URFC narrowly secured a draw against Racing Louisville FC on Saturday, October 3rd. Racing found the net late in the first half after winning a penalty in the 42nd minute with Louisville’s Katie O’Kane converting the opportunity, giving the opponents the lead just before the halftime whistle. Utah made multiple second half attempts to respond, however the home side maintained a 1-0 lead for the majority of the match. With just seconds on the clock, and in the 6th minute of stoppage time, substitute Brecken Mozingo took a touch with her chest before rocketing a left-footed shot into the net, notching a late-game equalizer and securing a point for the Royals to bring back home to Utah. The goal was Mozingo’s second of the season, and procured a much needed draw in the 2026 playoff push.

Coming off of the draw, URFC now heads home to America First Field to host Kansas City Current in its second meeting this season. Kansas City hosted the Royals on March 14th for the 2026 season opener at CPKC stadium. While Utah fell to the Current 2-1, the match was monumental for the Royals with FW Kiana Palacios making her NWSL debut as part of the starting XI. The lineup also saw Tatumn Milazzo’s return from injury, with Milazzo scoring the lone goal for the Royals, notching the opening goal of the 2026 season in the 35th minute and giving Utah the lead heading into halftime. The goal also marked the first-ever that the Royals have scored on the Current.

Now, Kansas City enters the matchup against Utah with a 13-5-9 league record and 44 pts, sitting at 5th in the overall NWSL standings, only one spot behind the Royals. The Current are on a recent tear with a 3W1D1L record for their last 5 matches, and two dominating wins prior to the international break. Kansas City found a 4-1 win over Denver Summit FC on September 26th before securing a  5-1 victory over Bay FC on October 3rd. Temwa Chaŵinga is the Current's top goalscorer for the 2026 campaign, having notched 12 goals during the season thus far. Led by Head Coach Chris Armas, who was named to the position this January, Kansas City will be looking to secure its second win this season over the Royals.

While the Current have been formidable opponents, the away team having won all five time meetings against the Royals, URFC still stands as a challenging rival. As the clubs go head to head the Royals will rely on its depth of goalscorers, with nine players having scored at least one of its 13 goals since matchday 16. Now, URFC will be looking to secure a victory over the Current in front of a home crowd, walking away with the absolutely vital three points as it approaches the end of the 2026 NWSL regular season.
