The Utah Royals (now 14-4-9, 46 points, 4th NWSL) entered Saturday’s matchup against Racing Louisville FC (now 7-3-17, 24 points, 15th NWSL) looking to break their alternating win-loss streak with a victory. After a grueling 90 minutes, a late first-half goal by Louisville and several near-misses from the Royals, Utah secured a 1-1 draw thanks to a stoppage-time equalizer by Brecken Mozingo. The goal not only secured a point for the Club, but also broke the Royals’ alternating win-loss streak and marked the first draw in the all-time series between the Royals and Racing.

Brecken Breaks the Streak

A point looked increasingly out of reach when Racing Louisville found the net late in the first half, with Katie O’Kane converting a penalty in the 42nd minute. With the second half winding down and Louisville seemingly on its way to victory, hope was beginning to fade for Royals fans.

Mozingo made her presence known immediately upon stepping onto the pitch as an 80th-minute substitution for Miyabi, creating chances and injecting energy into the match. Then, in the 6th minute of stoppage time, the ball found Mozingo at the top of the box. The forward took a chest-controlled touch before rocketing a left-footed shot into the back of the net, giving Utah its equalizer with seconds to spare, and ultimately securing a point for the Royals to bring home from Louisville.

The lone URFC goal also gave Utah its first draw against Racing, marking the first tie in Royals vs. Racing history, also signifying the first time in the all-time series between the two teams that the home team was unable to notch a win. The Royals have also alternated wins and losses in its last 11 matches and was able to break its intermittent run with the tie against Racing.

Along with breaking multiple streaks for the Club, the goal marks Mozingo’s second of the season, and the sixth for her professional career. Mozingo’s first goal of the 2026 campaign also came just minutes after she subbed onto the field. The forward received the ball from Canadian-international Cloé Lacasse, burying the chance in the 68th minute, and upping the score to 3-1 over Portland in front of a home crowd on August 2, 2026.

The Utah-native previously played for Brigham Young University; notching 92 games, scoring 36 goals, and providing 37 assists in the time she was there. She was named a Mac Hermann finalist and a First-Team All-American before being drafted 4th overall during the 2023 NWSL Draft to the Utah Royals. Mozingo continues to contribute to the Royals campaign, consistently sparking the team’s attack when it's needed most.

The Royals will return home after the international break to America First Field to host Kansas City Current in its penultimate home match of the regular season on Saturday, October 17th, with kickoff set for 4:30 p.m. MT. Tickets for the home match are available for purchase here.
