HERRIMAN (Monday, September 7, 2026) - Real Salt Lake’s DeAndre Yedlin has been named to Major Leagues Soccer’s “Team of the Matchday” Best XI for his late heroics to preserve a pair of come-from-behind equalizers in the 2-2 draw against LAFC on Saturday night at America First Field.
Down 2-1 midway through the second half, RSL Head Coach Pablo Mastroeni called on Yedlin’s number, hoping the veteran could provide a spark as the Claret-and-Cobalt chased an equalizer. Just eight minutes later, Noel Caliskan found the equalizer, jumping on the rebound from Aiden Hezarkhani’s deflected shot.
With three minutes remaining in the match, Korean superstar Son Heung-min received a perfectly-weighted throughball, breaking two RSL lines with only Rafa Cabral in between him and the net. After dribbling around Cabral, Son fired to what appeared to be an empty net. Opting for the near post, Son's efforts were denied by a sliding Yedlin, who tracked back from the far side of the pitch near the midline.
The defensive highlight left the LAFC striker stunned, who lay facedown on the turf in disbelief.
Following Saturday’s draw against LAFC, the Claret-and-Cobalt now head to Houston to face the Dynamo this Wednesday, with kickoff set for 6:30 p.m. MT. RSL then returns home next Saturday, September 12, hosting New York City FC for its second of four home games during September at America First Field (kickoff set for 7:30 p.m. MT.)
