Gio Villa Called-up to U-17 USYNT

HERRIMAN, Utah / CHICAGO (Thursday, March 13 , 2025) - Real Salt Lake and U.S. Soccer announce that defender Gio VIlla has been called up to the United States U17 Youth National Team International Training Camp.

Villa will report to Head Coach Gonzalo Segaresā€™ selection for the second time this year, for an eight-day camp in Alajuela, Costa Rica. This camp during the March FIFA international window contains two friendlies against the host nation, Costa Rica, the first on Sat., March 22 and the second on Mon., March 24.

The boysā€™ U17 USYNT is coming off of a dominant performance in the 2025 U-17 CONCACAF Qualifiers, topping Group F with nine points and a +31 goal differential. Villa started in all three of the United Stateā€™s group play matches, captaining the second against St. Kitts and Nevis, a 7-0 win. The United States defeated the U.S. Virgin Islands to open group play in a match that saw a staggering 22 goals scored for the Stars and Stripes, while later defeating Cuba 2-0 to clinch Group F.

The MLS NEXT regular season is in full swing for RSL Academy, the U-18 squad most recently drew 1-1 with Silicon Valley SA last Saturday. RSL Academy hosts Napa United this Saturday, March 15, with kickoff slated for 10:00 a.m. MT at Zions Bank Real Academy. Despite having recently made the jump from the U-17 to U-18 level after MLS NEXT changed its age divisions, the group has logged significant minutes in MLS NEXT play.
