Everyone wants to be in places they feel welcome and included, regardless of their age, gender, or race. During Pride Month, we wanted to highlight those businesses owned by members of the LGBTQ+ community who go above and beyond to help everyone feel safe at their business. From restaurants to book stores, here’s Visit Utah’s list of must-see businesses owned by LGBTQ+ members.
Laziz Kitchen offers Mediterranean cuisine at its locations in Salt Lake City and Midvale. Owners Moudi Sbeity and Derek Kitchen are dedicated to creating safe and delicious spaces for all members of the community. While Moudi is a member of the queer community, Derek was involved in the landmark Kitchen v Herbert case in 2013 that paved the way for legalizing same-sex marriages in the United States.
Pig & a Jelly Jar provides Southern-inspired food to Salt Lake City, Ogden, and Holladay customers. Pig & a Jelly Jar is also one of the only restaurants in Utah with all-gender bathrooms. All their food is made with love and served with integrity. Owner Amy Wanderley-Britt has even hosted drag shows at brunch time to help everyone feel included.
Fillings and Emulsions offer pastries and bread in Salt Lake City, West Valley City, and Provo. Founder and Executive Chef Adalberto Diaz is a fierce fighter for everyone. He rallies with the community to fight for justice and equality for all. Fillings and Emulsions also offer classes for baking and cooking as well as instructional videos online.
Located in Salt Lake City, Under the Umbrella Bookstore offers books about queer audiences and written by queer authors. Its mission is to provide a safe, sober, and accessible place for all people. Owner Kaitlyn Mahoney found her identity through books and wants to help others do the same.
Sweet Hazel & Co offers vegan treats and sweets from their shop in Murray. Owner Felicia Holmberg and her employees do everything they can to make sure everyone is treated with appreciation and respect. They don’t just celebrate Pride Month in June. They celebrate all year long and work to make their business a safe place for all.
