Claret-and-Cobalt Looking to Snap Multiple Winless Streaks This Weekend;

Back Home Saturday vs. New England with 10W-4L-3T Record in Sandy This Season;

SANDY, Utah (Friday, Sept. 25, 2026) – This weekend, Real Salt Lake (8W-13L-5T, 29 points, 13^th West / 23^rd Shield MLS) concludes a congested month of September, with a 7:30p MT kickoff Saturday against rising Eastern Conference power New England Revolution (14W-8L-4T, 46 points, 2^nd East / 3^rd Shield). For the fourth and final time at home in September, the match presents RSL the opportunity to snap a single-season Club-record 13-game winless run in MLS action dating back to May 16, as well as an overall five-game home drought dating back to August 11 against Liga MX side FC Juarez.

Overall, RSL holds a dominant 12-6-6 (W-L-T) record against New England in MLS regular-season play since 2005, doubling the Eastern side’s wins in the matchup. That record is even better on Utah soil, with seven wins and three draws against just two losses, RSL outscoring the Revolution 27-10 when playing at home. New England lost 6-0 and 5-0 in its first two visits to Sandy back in 2009 and 2010, while the last time the Revolution departed Utah with a full three points was nearly 20 years ago, when New England triumphed, 2-1, in July of 2007 on the Rice-Eccles Stadium artificial turf.

While encounters between the two sides are few and far between, RSL last lost to the Revolution in 2017, the Claret-and-Cobalt currently riding a four-game unbeaten run against the East Coast squad, scoring nine goals and conceding just three across those battles. The most recent game took place just over two years ago, when RSL defended America First Field with a 2-0 victory fueled by goals from Anderson Julio and Philip Quinton in August, 2024.

Despite last weekend’s 0-3 home loss to Vancouver, RSL still boasts an impressive 10-4-3 (W-L-T) overall record on Utah soil this season. Recent setbacks in Sandy since the FIFA World Cup break have dropped the Claret-and-Cobalt to 18-7-5 (W-L-T) at its America First Field fortress since June 1, 2025.  

Saturday’s RSL vs. New England contest on Apple TV features Nate Bukaty and Devon Kerr on the primary English-language call, while Oscar Salazar will provide the Spanish-language analysis. Simultaneously, the KSL Radio team of David James and Jay Nolly return to the mic, while Manuel Hernandez, Willy Barrueta, and Isidro López will be on the Spanish call for KBMG Latino 106.3 FM.

Last Friday, RSL playmaker Diego Luna underwent a successful meniscus repair in his knee Friday performed by U.S. Soccer Chief Medical Officer and Orthopedic Surgeon Dr. Bert Mandelbaum in Santa Monica, Calif., with Luna now expected to miss approximately six months. Luna suffered the knee injury back on Sept. 9 in Houston while playing 70 minutes in the 2-1 road loss, with the meniscus tear identified via MRI a day later.

In addition to Luna, four RSL players will miss this weekend’s action due to the ongoing FIFA international break, as Uruguayan World Cup standout Juan Manuel Sanabria and Canadian World Cup centerback Luc de Fougerolles have departed for their nations’ four-game slates, while Georgian international Saba Lobjanidze departed after Wednesday’s match in Seattle, as did RSL Academy midfielder Luca Moisa, who joined the USA U-19 camp Thursday. Trinidadian centerback Kobi Henry will join his country following Saturday’s home New England match, as will U.S. Youth National Team standout Colin Guske, joining the USA U-20s.

Last Saturday at a sold-out America First Field – hosting its 15^th consecutive MLS sellout, dating back to last September – RSL fell 0-3 against Western Conference leaders Vancouver Whitecaps FC, suffering back-to-back home shutouts for the first time since April, 2025. The highlight of Saturday’s match was the return of former captain and versatile fourth-year man Emeka Eneli, recovering from a knee injury to come off the bench to make his first appearance since last October’s Wild Card playoff match at Portland.

Also, newly-acquired attacking player Taylor Booth – a former RSL Academy star and a native of Eden, Utah, who became the 14^th Club debutant of 2026 and all-time RSL player No. 243 with his late appearance off the bench against NYCFC on Sept. 12 – saw extended minutes in the second half.  Two other newcomers – DF Luc de Fougerolles, Canadian World Cup starter and FW Dušan Žagar, the 19-year-old Serbian winger, each of whom were added at the transfer window deadline on Sept. 2 – still await their Club debuts.

While Booth joined FW Jason Shokalook, MF Colin Guske and Academy M/F Owen Anderson in making their first-ever RSL appearances this month, nearly a dozen players were out due to injury or visa status during several recent games. Wednesday, RSL midfielder Stijn Spierings (ankle) and defender Sam Junqua (concussion) each made their first starts since suffering late August injuries, although versatile left-sided man Alex Katranis suffered a pre-game adductor strain in Seattle, rendering him questionable for Saturday. With the late Katranis scratch, RSL has seen nearly 170 games this season lost due to injury, suspension or visa issues, while Real Monarchs callup and second-year professional Liam O’Gara became the 17^th player to make his 2026 first-team debut, and the 12^th to see his first-ever senior team action.

Real Salt Lake Head Coach Pablo Mastroeni has now managed the Club in 214 matches across all competitions, registering 85 wins, 79 losses and 50 draws in MLS, Audi MLS Cup Playoffs, Leagues Cup, Open Cup, Concacaf Champions Cup and international friendly contests since late August, 2021. The former U.S. Men’s National Team World Cup standout (2002, 2006), MLS Cup Champion (2010) as a player, and former Colorado Rapids manager (2014-16) has averaged 1.60 points per game with RSL in his 202 matches at the helm. Only Cup-winning former manager Jason Kreis (2007-13) – now the Club’s President of Soccer – boasts more games, more wins and a higher PPG average than Mastroeni in RSL’s 22 seasons.

During the Mastroeni era, resilience, grit and determination have served as trademarks for RSL, with the Club suffering back-to-back losses on just 25 occasions in those 214 games. Saturday’s contest against New England will be the latest opportunity for the Claret-and-Cobalt to display its “xDAWG” mentality to earn the result, now winning 35 and drawing 18 times in “bounce-back” games following a loss in Mastroeni’s five-plus seasons in Utah.
