Amidst its ongoing 2026 push to the Audi MLS Cup Playoffs, the Claret-and-Cobalt has also released its 2027 preseason slate, along with other various key dates during the 14-game Sprint Season schedule (seven home games, seven away, all against MLS Western Conference opponents), en route to a single-elimination postseason format that will see the top eight West teams qualify for the Playoffs.
The upcoming 2027 MLS Sprint Season represents RSL’s 23rd MLS campaign, and its 19th season in Sandy at what is now known as America First Field, the Club looking to build on its perennial competitive foundation, boasting the longest active MLS Cup Playoff qualification streak in MLS’ Western Conference, reaching the postseason five seasons in a row, despite numerous formats, ownership groups and front-office structures. Overall, RSL has advanced to the playoffs in seven of the last eight seasons (2020 the exception), and in 15 of the last 18 years (2015, 2017) since first qualifying in 2008. With last night’s win in Austin, RSL now sits on the precipice of extending all those postseason milestones, traveling to San Jose this Saturday for a Halloween matinee against the Earthquakes ahead of the Sat., Nov. 7 “Decision Day” match against LA Galaxy, in a game that could determine the overall Western Conference playoff picture.
Kicking off the 2027 MLS Sprint Season on Sun., Feb. 21 – equaling RSL’s earliest ever start (2024, 2026) – Major League Soccer’s “First Kick” weekend sees RSL travel to face long-time Western Conference rival Seattle, the first of four consecutive road contests to open 2027. Due to planned renovations at America First Field, RSL will also travel to San Diego FC (Sat., Feb. 27), Rocky Mountain Cup rivals Colorado Rapids (Sat., March 6) and San Jose Earthquakes (Sat., March 13), prior to the 2027 Sprint Season home opener on Saturday, March 20 against FC Dallas. RSL’s early-season bye week sees the team idle for the midweek matchday on Wed., March 3.
RSL’s complete 2027 Sprint Season schedule is available at www.RSL.com.
The 2027 Major League Soccer Sprint Season will kick off the weekend of February 19-21 and culminate in the Audi 2027 MLS Cup Playoffs and 2027 MLS Cup presented by Audi on Memorial Day Weekend in May. During the Sprint Season, each MLS club will face its 14 conference opponents once each, playing seven matches at home and seven on the road. In addition to crowning an MLS Cup champion, the 2027 MLS Sprint Season will also have international competition implications, determining qualification for the 2028 Concacaf Champions Cup and 2028 Leagues Cup.
The Saturday, March 20 RSL home opener against FC Dallas kicks off a run that sees America First Field host five matches in a six-game span through April 17, with St. Louis, Kansas City and Minnesota playing Saturday night games on Utah soil in that span, with only one midweek home game for RSL, hosting LA Galaxy on Wed., April 7. The Club travels away just once during the extended home period, heading to Vancouver on Sat., April 3.
The final four matches of RSL’s 2027 Sprint Season slate alternate home and away, with RSL traveling to LAFC (Wed., April 21) and Austin FC (Sat., May 1) while hosting Portland (Sat., April 24) and Houston (Sat., May 8), with the Dynamo match being played on the League’s Sprint Season “Decision Day.”
