ORLANDO, Fla. (Sat., Aug. 22, 2026) – Real Salt Lake (8-8-4, 28 points, 8th West / 14th MLS Shield) saw its MLS winless streak extended to seven games Saturday, falling 2-1 away at Orlando City SC (7-11-3, 24 points, 9th East / 21st MLS Shield) after conceding twice following another first-half lead.

Goalkeeper and former Orlando City Homegrown Mason Stajduhar made his RSL debut in the 2-1 loss, his first appearance in an MLS match since June 28, 2024 for Orlando. The ‘keeper suffered a broken leg just four days after an 11-save masterpiece in his previous MLS matches more than two years ago. Polish MF Dominik Marczuk scored the lone-goal for the Claret-and-Cobalt in the difficult road loss, netting his first goal of 2026 and his first since April 12, 2025, at Nashville.

RSL Head Coach Pablo Mastroeni made 10 personnel changes to the starting XI from Wednesday’s 3-4 loss against FC Dallas, the heaviest rotation during the Mastroeni era since RSL’s 2023 U.S. Open Cup run, which saw 10 changes made game-to-game on two occasions. Along with Stajduhar making his starting debut with the Club, second-year DF Kobi Henry made his first MLS start for the Claret-and-Cobalt, after featuring twice in last year’s CONCACAF Champions Cup series against Herediano. Two 18-year-old RSL Academy products featured in the starting lineup, with MF Aiden Hezarkhani rejoining the XI for the first time since May 23 and MF Luca Moisa making his first start since March 7 against Atlanta, coincidentally RSL’s last road victory.

2026 RSL Golden Boot leader Sergi Solans was unavailable tonight in preparation for Tuesday’s Leagues Cup Quarterfinal match, along with Brazilian GK Rafael Cabral, whose streak of 64 consecutive starts across all competitions since joining RSL in January 2025 was snapped tonight after playing each and every minute.

The visitors opened up the matchup with energy, consistently maintaining possession to earn offensive opportunities. RSL Captain and wingback Alex Katranis gave RSL its most tangible opportunity in the sixth minute, and while the play was ultimately deemed offside, the Claret-and-Cobalt continued to battle.

In the 36th minute the pressure paid off, Katranis taking an RSL free kick, linking with DF Sam Junqua. The 29-year-old defender sent a laser of a cross through the box and towards the far post, where Marczuk netted his first goal of the 2026 campaign and third career MLS score to draw first blood at Inter.Co Stadium. While Marczuk nearly netted a brace in the fifth minute of first-half stoppage time, the Orlando ‘keeper stretched for the diving save to send the visitors into the locker room ahead 1-0.

As the second half of play began, the home side found more opportunities in the attacking third, breaking through in the 53rd minute to net the equalizer. Just nine minutes later, Mastroeni made his first substitutions of the match,  bringing on the creativity and scoring ability of star MF Diego Luna, French Designated Player Morgan Guilavogui and Georgian international playmaker Saba Lobjanidze.

After the cooling break in the 75th minute, Uruguayan World Cup standout JuanMa Sanabria entered the match and immediately made an impact, finding a tangible offensive opportunity with a goal-line cross to Lobjanidze just minutes into his time on the pitch.

In the 81st minute, Orlando took the 2-1 lead, with French striker Antoine Griezmann netting a brace. The Claret-and-Cobalt continued to fight for the equalizer, with German MF Noel Caliskan nearly finding the net just minutes later.

RSL was ultimately unable to find the equalizer, dropping a second-consecutive match for the 21st time in the 208-game Mastroeni era and extending its active MLS winless streak to seven consecutive matches.

Real Salt Lake remains on the road for its second match of a three-game road swing, the highly-anticipated Leagues Cup Quarterfinal against Liga MX side Club León in the neutral-site contest Tuesday in Denver. Kickoff on Tuesday, August 25, is set for 8:30 p.m. MT, streaming on Apple TV. Following the Leagues Cup clash, RSL will return to Colorado to face Rocky Mountain Cup rival Colorado Rapids this Saturday, August 29. Kickoff for that match is slated for 7:30 p.m. MT, also streaming on Apple TV.
