RSL Academy U17s Earn Dominant Win at Home

The RSL Academy continued their MLS NEXT spring schedule hosting Breakers FC of Northern California at Zions Bank Training Facility, their first home competition since November of 2021.

The U15s started the day fast with a quick goal in the sixth minute to take the early lead. Luca Moisa found Zavier Gozo on a through ball, who easily beat the Breakers' backline to open up for a clean finish. As the half progressed, both sides saw opportunities including a penalty kick in the 21st minute for Breakers FC equalizing the score 1-1.

The U15s dominated the second half, creating many opportunities by maintaining possession and offensive control. Despite nine corner kicks and a late stoppage-time free kick, RSL unfortunately could not find the back of the net again, finishing the match with a 1-1 draw.

After watching the U15s get off to a quick start, the U17s found early success as well, scoring three goals in the first 20 minutes. Jaden Jackson found Terron Williams sprinting to the back post for an easy finish to open up the scoring. Six minutes later Izzy Amparo chipped a ball into Angel Morales who found the back of the net with his right foot. Real Salt Lake capped off the early scoring spree just moments later with Williams finding the net again, scoring a header crossed by Marcus Vasquez on the second corner of the match.

Midfielder Jude Wellings added to the lead in the 28th minute firing a shot from distance, slotting it by the outstretched Breakers FC goalkeeper into the side of the net. The U17s finished the first half with a 4-0 lead

In the second half, the U17s continued their scoring ways with an early goal. Amparo found Jackson in the center of the box who was able to skip it past the goalkeeper, extending their lead to a five goal advantage. In the 68th minute, RSL scored their sixth and final goal when Ethan Zamora crossed a ball into second-half substitute Angel Montesinos who was able to easily place it into the back of the net. The match finished with a final score of 6-1 after the Breakers scored on a penalty kick in stoppage time.

The RSL Academy will now travel to Southern California where they will play the LA Galaxy on Saturday, March 26th.
