Since officially joining the Miller Sports + Entertainment (MSE) family last week, Real Salt Lake has continued its commitment to a cause central to both organizations: serving the community. RSL remains dedicated to being a positive force throughout Utah, a mission MSE shares wholeheartedly.
This week marked the Larry H. Miller Week of Service, and Real Salt Lake participated in volunteer efforts across the state each day. On Monday, RSL and Larry H. Miller staff visited the Boys & Girls Club, where they led two volunteer sessions.
The Boys & Girls Club provides after-school and summer programs for youth ages 6–18, focusing on academic success, healthy lifestyles, and character development. The organization operates seven locations throughout the Salt Lake area, serving thousands of young people each year.
Among the participants was RSL Community Relations Coordinator Rachel Jaclin, who shared,
"On 4/21, Real Salt Lake and the Utah Royals visited the Boys and Girls Club in Sugar House to volunteer as part of the Larry H. Miller Week of Service. In the morning, we did manual labor to help clean up the property — cleaning, weeding, landscaping, and planting. In the afternoon, we had a fun day with the kids in the after-school program, playing soccer and wiffle ball and providing them with a new and exciting after-school experience."
Also participating was Salt Lake Bees and Miller Sports + Entertainment Youth Program Manager Peter Callahan. He reflected on the afternoon session:
"During the afternoon, we visited the Sugar House Boys and Girls Club and played both baseball and soccer with the kids. I managed the baseball activities, where we had around 30 kids split into two groups. Each group spent 45 minutes rotating between hitting and throwing/fielding stations. Using wiffle balls and foam balls, kids practiced catching and throwing, and we finished by letting them hit and run the bases. We even had a surprise visit from Bumble and Leo, which was a highlight for the kids — especially when they got to play catch with Bumble."
Callahan also spoke about the larger significance of the event:
"Events like these are a great way to support our local communities. It’s not just about showing that our organizations care about the people who support us — it’s about using sports like soccer and baseball as tools to bring the community together and enjoy being active and outside. Working for a sports and entertainment business means being involved in the community every single day. Without the community, there are no sports, so supporting it in any way we can is a no-brainer."
Joni Record, Club Director of the Sugar House Boys & Girls Club, also expressed her appreciation:
"We were lucky to have about 50 volunteers from the Royals, RSL, Salt Lake Bees, Megaplex, and the Larry H. Miller teams come help with two activities at our Club. First, volunteers helped us clean walls, pull weeds, spruce up our basketball court, and paint the safety barrier in front of our Club.
The second activity was a Fun Day for the kids, where they got to play soccer and wiffle ball with the volunteers.
These two events made a huge impact. The cleaning made our Club shine a little brighter, and painting the safety barrier made it a little safer, but the event the kids are still talking about is playing sports with the volunteers. The kids ask every day when they’ll get to play with these amazing volunteers again. This event brought smiles, cheers, and good sportsmanship.
The Larry H. Miller and RSL families truly embraced giving back and being leaders in service to others. It's so important for our youth to see that through service and community involvement, everyone can make a difference. You never know the impact a simple game, a cleaner space, or a little extra help can have. A special thank you to RSL and the entire team who celebrated the Larry H. Miller Week of Caring with us — you left a lasting impression and inspired many."
