Real Salt Lake off to Seattle for Late-Night Tilt

HERRIMAN, Utah (Monday, August 8, 2022) – Real Salt Lake (9-8-7, 34 pts, 5th West) resumes training this week in preparation for Sunday’s 8:00p MT visit to Seattle’s Lumen Field to face reigning CONCACAF Champions League titlists Sounders FC (10-12-2, 32 pts, 8th West).

Sunday’s match will be broadcast locally via KMYU (12 over the air, 22 satellite and 643 HD on cable), with streaming on the KSL Sports App, as well as ESPN700 AM radio. Spanish-speaking fans can tune in on KBMG Latino 106.3 FM, La Gran D 102.3 FM and KTUB 1600 AM for the local radio broadcast.

RSL visits Seattle for the first time since last November’s stunning postseason shootout victory at Lumen Field, a 120-minute scoreless draw that featured only three total shots on goal – all by Seattle – decided in a six-round shootout, with RSL DF Justen Glad deciding the match from the penalty spot with a shot past Sounders GK Stefan Frei that nicked both posts. The victory enabled RSL to knock Seattle out of the 2021 MLS Cup Playoffs last November, the second time (2011, 2021) in four postseason meetings (also 2012, 2019) that RSL ended the Sounders’ MLS Cup pursuits.

Several former RSL luminaries now dress in “Rave Green” for Seattle, including past GMs Garth Lagerwey and Craig Waibel, former head coach Freddy Juarez and former players Albert Rusnák and Kelyn Rowe.
